Delivery of whole proteins is the next great challenge for medicine, as they
can provide a therapeutic remedy without the side effects of traditional
synthetic drug compounds. However, proteins are fragile and short lived in
vivo and require a nano scale delivery vehicle to enable their circulation
within the blood stream and delivery into the desired target cells. MediVas
has pioneered the development of a synthetic polymeric platform for the capture
and stabilization of recombinant proteins into biocompatible particles for the
administration of biologic therapeutics. MediVas' technology employs
polymer-bound cations to specifically capture the recombinant protein. A
significant advantage of this system is its simplicity: the same polymer
platform can be used to capture almost any recombinant protein. This
technology has allowed the production of a wide variety of stable, protein-based
prototype products, from antigen-based vaccines to antibody coated nanoparticles
targeted for specific cell surface receptors to extended duration macromolecules
such as Blood Factor IX and basal insulin.
